Whelan

BARBARA WHELAN: Raised and educated in Belleville, Whelan took an early interest in drawing and painting. She has developed a style of painting and expression that has become well known and sought after throughout this area. Whelan has taught in the community for many years, especially classes for senior citizens. A recipient of many awards and commissions, Barbara was commissioned to paint the Belleville Cultural Award in 1975. Barbara is a founding member of The Belleville Art Associa-tion and the famous Art on the Fence in Ameliasburg. She is a tireless observer of life, capturing moments familiar to us all. In 2003, Whelan received an "Artist of the Year" from the City of Belleville and sponsored by the Quinte Arts Council. In 2004, Whelan received a $100 Juror's Award from East Central Ontario Art Association for her "Best in Show" submission.
